Another great Newman movie available now for free on YouTube: Verdict from 1982.

@DTachaJr

A great movie but not even his best. Newman had many great movies, but his best was, The 1958 Cat on a hot tin roof. The movie starred Elizabeth Taylor age 23 and Burl Ives and Paul Newman age 33. The movie made him a superstar and propelled his career to great lengths and fame and fortune beyond his wildest dream. The crime of the century was that the film was nominated six times for an Oscar but receive none. Instead the Oscar went to a movie that today no one even mentions. Best Picture went to Gigi (another Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production). The same night, Burl Ives won Best Supporting Actor for The Big Country.

Barbara Rush is over the top good as a suffering hostage. Boone, rotten to the core here, is as good as a heavy as anyone could be. Watch him in The Tall T.

I remember seeing this film as a teenager in the early 70's. Always considered it to be one of my favourite films. Newman had such presence.
