Ex–Honor Guard Brought to Tears by Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Ethan Morse, who grew up on a farm in Potsdam, New York, had never seen the Tomb of the Unknown Solider before a friend invited him on a day trip to Arlington National Cemetery. That afternoon left a deep impression on him, and when he enlisted in the Army in the wake of 9/11, Morse knew he wanted to serve as a tomb guard. After training for one year, he was selected for sentry duty at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. To hear the rest of Morse’s story, please visit and watch “The Mistake That Haunts This Guard of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier” from the AARP original series “Reporting for Duty”.

Thank you soldier…Semper Fi! Each of us who have served in combat units and forward elements knows and fully understands how sacred a trust that was given to you and that those who now guard the tomb understand that you are standing watch for ALL OF US (not just the nation) but for those of us who have worn the uniform and stood in harm's way. That is why only a special breed are given that sacred trust.

@AP_ProudAmerican

Was one of the most emotional moments of my life.

Why do some militaries wear sunglasses?

The whole point of the peak on the cap is to protect your eyes from the sun.
