Join Sky News as the UK’s biggest steelworks will cease production today after more than 100 years, leading to thousands of job losses across South Wales.

Blast Furnace 4 – the final furnace operating at Tata Steel’s plant in Port Talbot – will be fully shut down at about 5pm, with the last steel made late on Monday evening.

In an email sent to staff and seen by Sky News, Tata UK’s chief executive Rajesh Nair admitted it would be a “difficult day” of “great emotion and reflection”

It's important to note that the closure makes basically Zero difference in global emissions. It does make the UK a little poorer though – which is the primary objective.

Lack of comments says everything about this once Great Country.
Total Apathy witnessing the decline of the UK…and the rise of others at our expense… to Virtue signal to the rest of the World …who don't care what we do.

It is a sad day, just as loosing Sheffield steel was many years ago. Hopefully the process will not be lost to history should the need arise to produce at "any means" necessary

So proud of the UK, it is right on the right journey of phasing out heavily polluted industry. I am sure people will be happy for the Green future

And next year China will invade Taiwan. We will need steel. Shortsightedness from the British government. The new Labour government. Perhaps Starmer can donate some of those clothes from his £32,000 haul.

This is the side of ‘going green’ that nobody wants to talk about. Going green may sound good, but when thousands of jobs are lost because of it, is it really what people want ?
And this is just the tip of the iceberg, as more factories and industry are forced to ‘go green’

But Tata is building a massive blast furnace in India CO2 doesn’t stay in iIndia’s border and now we will import our Steel from India
