Exploring the incredible transformation of the Persian Gulf from a collection of small fishing villages to the global epicenter of oil-fueled opulence. Cities like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Riyadh have risen from the sands with grand visions of becoming world-class business and tourist destinations. But is this meteoric rise sustainable, or just a facade built on dwindling oil reserves? We delve into the ambitious projects, the looming challenges, and the critical question of what happens when the oil runs out. Will these cities thrive in a post-oil world, or are they destined to become relics of a forgotten boom?

@CommissionerLofi

Honestly they should have invested in proven things on the tech tree.

@Velereonics

it's almost frustrating to watch like it's so obvious to anyone in the rest of the world that just copying what everyone else is doing will not work. "oh electric cars are big let's make an electric car company" sure you can do that because you have the money to do anything really But there's just no reason anybody is going to buy a car from a company but a country so far away when they can get one made by a guy who lives here. how are you even going to be noticeable or like a name people can even remember if you aren't present in everybody's minds the way Elon musk is. And how are you going to get people to go there if it's like obviously constructed by what are essentially indentured servants And where the not entirely inaccurate perception that people could fall victim to religious laws they don't even understand and may not even be aware of is constantly just pushing people away. And they can't really dispel that because they would be killed by their own people if they like committed some kind of heresy like that. The only way they could fix it is by having like a giant gay convention and getting like millions of homosexuals to go.

@Velereonics

if they do not openly loudly and repeatedly soften their stances on their religious practices and like aggressively get their religious leaders under control and communicate to their populace that this is just not going to work then nobody's going to go.

@number1genoa

I would think oil price collapse is more of a concern than the oil running out.
