Live service games aren't going anywhere. While you rightfully pointed out the worst parts of an online community, like in League of Legends, you didn't mention the best parts of an online community, where people feel a real sense of belonging in the community they interact with, whether that be their guild or their server or their faction. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have close friends to play games with but they may still desire that connection of experiencing a creative medium with other people. Online games can be phenomenal at filling this void as everyone plays and discovers the game together live. Because it's live service, it also ensures that community will be alive and well for years to come (assuming it doesn't meet an unfortunate, early grave). While single player games can also have robust communities, the fact that the entire product is delivered in one go usually means people are experiencing the game at different paces and most players have finished going through it that first time…they move on to something else, leaving the community with only the most die hard fans.

So I'm half way with you. I've completely quit PvP online games. I've actually been majorly into gacha games for the last several years. I know they are hated, and the monetization sucks, and it can be really predatory, and the biggest ones can have the worst communities of all time so you can believe me when I say I'm NOT advocating for people to dive into them…but all the best online communities I've, personally, found have been a result of the random, niche gacha games I happen to fall in love with.

The quickest and most effective way of pretty much quitting most games is to become a game dev or make your own game.

As I have shifted more into single-player games I still do enjoy casually playing multiplayer games with friends, not as a competitive level but as a fun and interactive game session. I do however understand your side and can relate with your change in interests.

Thanks for the shout-out dude. Much appreciated. What was your favourite league champion and lane?

I've been primarily playing Single-player / coop games with friends for the last few years as well, I still play Fall Guys almost nightly the same way someone might watch a show before bed (I do that too sometimes) but that's it. Beating 71 games over almost 3 years now (since I've been tracking what I beat) has been a great source of pride, despite knowing it's not more than some.

The Finals was the final nail in the coffin for me, 30 hours played with 1 other friend (it's teams of 3 so we normally had a random) in its first month & every match felt like we'd win by simply stealing out from under the other team (in some cases literally) vs actually fighting them back. It just felt like we needed a regular 3rd person & even when we did get that they'd better be at minimum a good player too, which is kinda nuts. It just killed my enthusiasm & I feel like not having community servers or less competitive modes has really hurt online gaming.

Aside from that I've gotta say thanks for keeping up with the videos, I've been completely sidelined for a while & was about to start making long form content again soon, but had yet another crunch regarding some chores & I won't get out the Halloween video I was hoping to use as a return/rebrand of the channel. Super easy to get down on myself & feel overwhelmed, but seeing this video completely 180'd my perspective.

I know I'll get back at it soon (before year's end), but when I've been away from it as long as I have I start to get a creative itch.

I stopped playing (competitive) multiplayer games a few years ago and it was the greatest decision i've ever made after wasting literal months on CSGO, Dota, and Rocket League.. Just let me couch co-op with a friend, or experience a story lol.

I appreciate your positive outlook but i can't get myself to agree that the industry is shifting. The live service trash is making them far too much money.
