Every year, thousands of high school graduates enroll in military academies and colleges, committing to four years of an intense military lifestyle filled with physical challenges and mental discipline. It’s a completely different experience than that of most of their peers who choose traditional colleges. And in the case of military service academies like West Point and the U.S. Naval Academy, attending those schools comes with a contract to serve in the armed forces for years after graduation.
Some young people choose to attend military colleges like The Citadel and The Virginia Military Institute that don’t require a commitment to serve. For the last five years, Business Insider has gone inside these institutions to see what it’s like on the first day when these high school graduates take the first step of their military college experiences.

Really only knowing what I know About West Point and Annapolis I learned from old films Men of Annapolis and historical photography . What I liked viewing as an aside was change in uniforms . In Shipmates Forever the Middy Suits look pretty much the same as today. In the film Admiral says to son tells his son that with a few washings the blouse will soon fit better. It seems to be the same today but I noticed today belts are worn with the Middy blouses. Why. Navy blue suits look much the same as the silent film staring Ramon Navarro and a John Ford film that included John Wayne and Ward Bond. The dance music was great, the Drags were stunning in their gowns and Ward Bond was a pretty good dancer. Interesting that in Duke of West Point and Shipmates Forever there was only Drew's parents who accompanied there son. Everyone was sworn into their perspective academy in West Point on a field or in Navys in what looked like a gym. In Duke Of West Point Duke tells Drew. . . .And don't let them catch you three cents in your pocket or you'll be in real trouble. In Shipmates Forever Dick Powell tells the greeter that he can't pay the cover charge as he only earns three dollars a month. Like the idea of putting a portion of their salary aside so they leave the academy solvent. Are plebes now allowed to eat a meal in piece. Noticed in some programs on West Point that cadets are now allowed to keep food in their rooms. Does West Point still play a hockey match against the Canadian military school. When I was little my uncle had a reproduction of an old WWII poster showing a girl looking out at you in a cute pose wearing a Middy suit and saying. . . .Wish I Were A man. To young to join and too old to join when women were allowed. BUT at six I had my Middy blouse white slacks that I could wear everywhere except with my Grandfather who insisted that I had to wear a pretty dress I could be shown off sitting atop a baring swilling my strawberry soda. I should add that all four Raygoza brothers served in different theaters of war.
