Ford is missing the point, there're really talented actors under 50 but none of them have the star power of what Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Denzel Washington, Bruce Willis and Jack Nicholson did at their ages. One of the biggest reasons why an original movie like Back to the Future was a massive hit because it had Michael Fox and he was the hottest young star on TV. Now everything is about the brand, and it doesn't matter who the actor is in the movie. Gen Z is more into following social media influencers. They don't watch as many movies as other generations did growing up.

In a perfect world it isn’t the IP or movie star that sells a film, it’s the story.

@MichaelTomsyck

Yes, the movie star is a thing of the past. The more that IPs have grown over the decades, the more that people get excited about seeing a brand they know, not because of the lead actor or actress. As much as actors are what brings movies and television to life, the current landscape of what gets excitement and money is driven by existing worlds and characters. This discussion is another piece of just how much IP movies are what drive excitement and financial success, not a mid-budget film starring a familiar face. It is what it is.

I'll watch Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds in anything not R rated.

@TheAsuraeva

Tom cruise, di caprio, will smith

There's too much emphasis on franchises and shared universe's. It takes attention off of the movie star.
