That’s crazy. McNamara’s Morons were amongst a lot of other things that impeded on the US military’s success in Vietnam.
1. McNamara’s morons
2. 109,000+ acres of rubber tree forest owned by Michelin company that the US military was banned from entering and the VC was aware of it.
3. 20 round M16 mags instead of 30 rounds. (Soldiers would constantly write to gunmakers to order 30 round mags)
4. The F4 Phantom (the primary jet fighter of the era) was intentionally designed with no gun. Which severely limited the fighting capabilities of the jet.
5. Racism in the US military severely reduced the effectiveness of the military due to infighting. Primary example of “divide and conquer”.
6. Rules of Engagement; US soldiers were prohibited from engaging enemy soldiers if they were crossing the border into Cambodia, Laos, or the Michelin’s company rubber tree plantation in Vietnam.
7. The prone jamming of the M16. The newly introduced battle rifle was plaguing soldiers with malfunctions. As the rifle would easily jam and soldiers would ditch their rifles for AK-47’s.
7. The political situation on US soil equated to poor morale towards soldiers and the war effort in general.
And we wonder why the US lost the Vietnam war.
And you had to put a thumbnail imprinting on the minds of yet another generation. Subtle messages…. I’m not..that’s an ass move.
