Malaysia’s second finance minister speaks to CNA on expectations from budget

Malaysia’s government says it hopes to offer clarity on its plan to slash petrol subsidies in Friday’s (Oct 18) budget announcement. Second finance minister Amir Hamzah Azizan speaks to CNA’s Melissa Goh about the need to rebuild finances even as the potential move has sparked political backlash amid rising living costs. He also weighs in on the country’s economic outlook with full-year growth poised to beat the 5 per cent official forecast.

Anwar is assisted by a team of truly capable people. We have Amir Hamzah as second finance minister. Then we have a team led by the legendary Tan Sri Hassan Marican as advisory committee to the finance minister. If we see Malaysia progresses rapidly economically, it's actually no surprise. Malaysia is indeed in good hands.
