I think it’s long past time that Halo be put to rest. The magic that made the original trilogy amazing died when Bungie left and when they tied up the story in a perfect way with 3.
If there are to be new halo games, they need to be games that tell stories during the human covenant conflict that don’t involve Chief. The only ones really worth telling need to have stakes and weight, and what made the narrative so easy to understand and relate to was the knowledge that should we fail, humanity as a species would be glassed by the covenant or infected by the flood.
The games since Bungie’s departure just don’t have that kind of narrative weight or stakes to make me really invest myself into their stories.
