When 911 happened I had been out of the Marine Corp 6 years. I could have reentered at the same rank. I would have to go through Marine Combat Training again to update myself on tactics, orienteering, weapons and meet physical standards. I asked about going back to LAR ( Light Armored Reconnaissance ) and would need to go to heavy weapons school, and it would help greatly as an NCO to keep growing in rank to get my scuba, attend Scout Sniper School and go to jump school because if LAR had no openings i would need those for 2nd Reconnaissance (Force Reconnaissance ) or 2nd Marines Infantry Sniper Platoon.
That meant with pauses between schools, I was looking at over a year and a half of just training before i would even have a unit to report to. Even then, I'd be in NC, CA or Okinawa.
If i went arming i could do Army Jump scool, Navy Scuba, Marine Scout Sniper, Ranger Air Assualt, then standard Ranger Training Process. Once you go through Marine Boot Camp, which is far more advanced, intense and longer than any other service you get a pass to any other boot camp other than Coast Guard since you need the ship and boat trainings they have.
Army would have been 8months of school with Ranger trainings Green Berate would have been 18 months due to language scool Seal would have been abo I t the same but mostly with a unit. Air Force JTAC would be 13 months training. Air Force or Army would have let me be stationed at Ft. LEWIS/McCord joint base close to my kids in Olympia WA.

My x wife told me if i reentered any service she would take all rights to my kids away whill I was in training.

I prioritized my kids.
