There is plenty of sacrifices but there's plenty of benefits as well. Military isn't for everybody. Lucky for you young people there really isn't anything big going on right now. I joined in the 90's in a completely different era. I'm glad I joined because it's changed my life. I did a 6 month tour to Iraq back in 98 and that deployment made me look at life in a completely different lens.

Yes, you said everything clearly. The things you described are very reletable. Going into a new country joining the military, being in very unifamiliar environment, not knowing anyone, not knowing anything about the place at all apart from what you've read is definitely isolating and lonely. I know lot of eastern Europeans, especially balkaners who are joining the military for escaping their situation and pursuing better life while getting citizenship faster. Yes, you gonna be away from your family, yes for someone this is a good thing for other is bad but overall it's necessary sacrifice. Yes, you gonna get injured, I usually get injured pretty hard thanks God, I've went through everything. From 110 degrees to 0 in matter of several hours. From a desert to a snowy mountain, it was definitely bad, I remember getting nose bleeds and heavy headache when this happened. Yes, you gonna get back pain at some point that's why it's important to train your lower back. For people who want to join in the army or the marines do improve your cardio, improve your core strength, be light and be tough at the same time. Get used to carry lot of weight for long distances without getting tired, work on proper breathing otherwise you'll have big problem. If you have broken nose or something like that, take that in mind breathing for you is going to be harder, because I have broken nose at it was hard, even when at ease I couldn't breath properly. This might not be your case, but keep that in mind.

Overall joining the military is like the first day of school, you gonna feel lonely and isolated but eventually you'll get used to it.

I am 12 and I want to join the USMC, I have started trying to do pushups and run and also eat less. My reason to join is freedom; I feel like I’m locked in unless I’m at my dad’s house every other weekend and I find myself wanting those two days of freedom more and more every week. Anything you recommend me to start doing, I’m open! ❤
